At Iron Mask Industrial Park (IMIP), we are pleased to share an update on the significant progress being made on site preparation. Our contractor, Extreme Excavating, together with subcontractor Pashco Blasting Ltd., has been driving this work with expertise and precision. Since earthworks began in spring 2024, 21 controlled blasts have been completed, with two small blasts remaining. In total, 119,000 m³ of blast rock has been displaced and repurposed for embankment construction, ensuring efficient material use and reducing the need for off-site sourcing.
The scope of earth movement at IMIP is substantial. Across the 2024 and 2025 construction seasons, the following volumes are being managed on site:
· 79,000 m³ of stripping, hauled to the topsoil dump at the west end of the property
· 85,000 m³ of common excavation, used to cap rock embankments.
· 119,000 m³ of rock excavation, placed as embankment in the lower sections of the grade
Extreme Excavating is delivering this work with a skilled team and a full suite of equipment, including 50-tonne and 35-tonne excavators, three 40-tonne rock trucks, bulldozers up to 360 hp, a 40-tonne water wagon and vibratory compactors. On-site personnel include a project manager, foreman, 11 heavy equipment operators, a safety coordinator, and two surveyors. This is supported by Pashco Blasting Ltd.’s drilling and blasting team, consisting of a blaster, three drillers, and two to six labourers on loading days, as well as various rock drills.
The progress being achieved reflects the coordinated effort of our partners and is critical to preparing IMIP’s graded pads and infrastructure corridors for future tenants. This foundation work supports our long-term vision: creating a high-capacity industrial site to address Kamloops’ shortage of light industrial land and attract diverse businesses to the region.
