Kamloops, B.C.: Comet Industries Ltd. (Comet) is pleased to announce the completion of an Archaeological Impact Assessment for the Iron Mask Industrial Park, marking another significant step forward in the development of the 200-acre light industry industrial park in Kamloops.
While not legally required, Comet proactively undertook a comprehensive Archaeological Impact Assessment across the entire property to ensure that no culturally sensitive sites would be disturbed during future development. The assessment was conducted in consultation with 13 Indigenous communities whose traditional territories overlap the project area.
“Comet chose to do a full archaeological impact assessment across our entire 200 acres to ensure we would not be disturbing any culturally sensitive sites,” said Mike O’Reilly, President and CEO of Comet. “The completed Archaeological Impact Assessment will also give future developers and lot purchasers confidence and peace of mind that there is a low likelihood of encountering archaeological concerns on the site.”
The Archaeological Impact Assessment revealed no archaeological findings on the property, a result that significantly streamlines the development process.
“Completing this work up front removes a major barrier for businesses,” added O’Reilly. “It’s part of our commitment to thoughtful, responsible development and providing shovel-ready land for industrial users.”
With the archaeological assessment now complete, Comet is currently awaiting final rezoning approvals. The last outstanding item is the Ministry of Transportation and Transit review and approval of the project’s Traffic Impact Assessment, which has been fully submitted.
This milestone brings Iron Mask Industrial Park one step closer to being able to sell lots to welcome new businesses and creating positive, long-term economic opportunities for the Kamloops region.
